West Virginia CDL Permit Test - Bus

Directions: This endorsement is required for driving a school bus. To receive this endorsement, applicants must pass a test. The test consists of 20 multiple choice questions. To pass, the applicant must answer at least 16 questions correctly. Each question has four possible answer choices. Test questions come from the West Virginia Commercial Driver’s License Manual. Questions come from chapters covering School Buses, Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection Test, Basic Vehicle Control Skills Test and On-Road Driving. The School Bus endorsement can be used with the Class A, B or C CDL.

Read a book.
Watch the process and keep an eye on the students.
Talk to other bus drivers.
Listen to the radio.

Once stopped as part of the stop/start maneuver, you should:
Apply the parking brake.

Not be used for cargo.
Be free of cracks.

Look for missing leaf springs.

Ensure torsion springs are not damaged.
Glue cracked leaf springs.
If a driver cannot account for a student after the student has exited the bus, the driver should:
Secure and leave the bus to look for the student.
Assume the student has safely exited the bus.
Walk to the back of the bus to see if the student got back on.
Ask another student if they've seen the student.
Why should a school bus stop a short distance from students who are waiting to board?
