2024 New Hampshire Motorcycle Permit Test 3

The following questions are from real DMV written motorcycle permit tests. These are some of the actual permit questions you will face in New Hampshire when getting your motorcycle learners permit. 7. As you slow or stop, you should:

Shift up through the gears.

Shift down through the gears.

Take the bike out of gear.

Stay in the same gear.

You should shift down through the gears with the clutch as you slow or stop. Stay in first gear while you are stopped so you can move quickly, if needed.

Instead of or in addition to mechanical turn signals, operators may use hand signals to indicate turns or stops. If an operator's left arm is bent at the elbow and pointing downward, it means the operator plans to slow down or stop.

9. If you are riding behind a car, you should:

Stay in a lane position that makes you visible to the driver.

Always ride in the far left portion of the lane.

Not be concerned about your placement.

Always ride in the far right portion of the lane.

When riding directly behind a car, it is usually safest to ride in the center portion of your lane. If you are riding in the center of the lane, you are most likely to be visible in the rearview mirror of the vehicle ahead. Most drivers check their rearview mirror more frequently than they check their side mirrors.

10. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation recommends a SEE strategy to make safe judgments while riding. What does "SEE" stand for?

Search, Evaluate, Execute

Stop, Extend, Enter

Share, Extra, Escalate

Experienced riders use a SEE strategy while riding to make safe judgements. "SEE" stands for Search, Evaluate, and Execute.

11. A face shield:

Provides protection for the eyes and face.

Is not recommended.

Is required.

Does not protect the face as well as goggles.

A plastic, impact-resistant face shield provides the greatest degree of protection for a wearer's eyes and face. Eyeglasses or sunglasses are not an adequate substitute. In Vermont, you are not legally required to wear eye or face protection if your motorcycle has a windshield, though it is recommended.

12. To effectively provide protection for a motorcycle rider, pants should:

Be made of a soft material.

Be made of a heavy material.

Fit loosely enough that they flap in the wind.

Be short and expose some parts of the legs.

For your protection, you should wear pants that cover your entire legs and are made of leather or another sturdy synthetic material. Clothing should fit snugly enough that it does not flap in the wind but not so snugly that it restricts your movement.
